Camden Rotarians have stepped up to provide volunteer drivers for MCH Meals on Wheels. This new pool of volunteers will be responsible for delivering meals every Friday on the ‘Hope’ route, serving homebound seniors and disabled adults in Rockport, Hope, Union, Appleton, and Washington areas.

Volunteers load special insulated containers of hot meals in their personal vehicles at the MCH kitchen in Rockland between 8-9AM and begin making deliveries on Route 17.  They work their way up Mill Street in Rockport and continue on to stops on Route 90. Then the head up to Hope, Union Appleton and Washington. They make 11 stops, connecting with 15 people, covering approximately 80 miles by the time they return to Rockland.

Sharing a moment with an MCH Meals on Wheels volunteer helps people know they remain part of the community, and that there are people concerned about their well-being. In some, the volunteer-delivered meal may be the only balanced meal they eat all day and the conversation with the volunteer may be their only face-to-face interaction on that day.  The heart of this program is friendship and communication.

Since 1925 the Camden Rotary Club has been dedicated to helping others both locally and internationally, improving the lives of others by putting service above self.

Please consider becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Contact Katie Tarbox (701-9641) to learn more about becoming a volunteer driver and other volunteer opportunities.
