Jazz For Meals, a benefit concert for MCH Meals on Wheels, will take place Thursday, March 24, 7 p.m., at Camden Hills Regional High School’s Wave Cafe. This annual event showcases high school and middle school jazz bands from across the Midcoast region. This year’s line-up includes the Belfast High School Jazz Band, Camden Hills Regional High School Jazz Band, Camden-Rockport Middle School Jazz Bands, Medomak Valley High School Jazz Band and MOJO (Monday Night Jazz Orchestra). Nearly 100 performers will perform from 7:00-9:00pm and will culminate with a combined performance of “Birdland” popularized by the group Weather Report.
In addition, musicians will play selections from the Big Band sound of the 1940s to more contemporary pieces for this cabaret-style performance. Admission for Jazz for Meals is a suggested amount of $10 per person. There is no charge for those ages 18 and under. Jazz for Meals is sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank and Camden Real Estate Company. Delicious refreshments will be served making it a lively and entertaining night of family fun.
The annual Jazz for Meals concert has successfully, for the past seven years, raised awareness and funding for our community Meals on Wheels program. All proceeds will benefit MCH Meals on Wheels which delivers 130 hot meals a day to seniors and people with disabilities throughout Knox County. Meals on Wheels participants are independent Mainers who want to continue living in their homes for as long as possible.
Without MCH Meals on Wheels, many seniors would have to move into assisted living or nursing homes. A recent study showed that one year of Meals on Wheels costs the same amount as six days in a nursing home, or just one day in the hospital.
Our local Meals on Wheels is part of the Rockland based MCH, Inc’s safety net of services which provides housing, transportation and aging in place services designed to keep seniors and people with disabilities healthy and living independently. MCH is Making Community Happen, one individual at a time.
