Kitchen Appeal concludes successfully
The MCH Meals on Wheels Kitchen Appeal Committee is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our campaign to raise the funds needed to improve and expand the MCH Meals on Wheels kitchen at 39 Summer Street in Rockland. The new kitchen will increase our capacity to prepare hot, home-delivered meals for older adults and people with disabilities helping them to live independently in Knox County.
Maine has the second oldest population of any state in the U.S.—and, the number of seniors is increasing each year. During the past three years, MCH Meals on Wheels has experienced an increase in the number of people requesting home-delivered meals.
The individuals who receive the meals are struggling with illnesses, medical conditions, disabilities, advancing age and lack of transportation. Some of these individuals have modest means and are able to contribute toward the cost of the meals, but the majority of people that receive meals do not have the resources to secure the food they need. MCH Meals on Wheels raises funds every year to meet the cost of providing for these individuals.
Every morning, MCH Meals on Wheels prepares hot, home-cooked meals in its small kitchen in Rockland. Last year over 30,000 meals were delivered. An exceptional team of community volunteers delivers those meals Monday through Friday to every part of Knox County.
With a larger, more efficient, well-equipped kitchen, MCH Meals on Wheels will be able to keep pace with the increasing numbers of people—from all walks of life—who are requesting meals, and who absolutely need daily meals to live independently, with dignity and to get the nutrition they require to stay healthy.
