MCH provides affordable apartments to help older adults and individuals with disabilities maintain their independence in a community setting.

MCH specializes in service enriched housing communities, a unique form of housing utilizing resident services coordinators who link residents to a menu of onsite supportive services and community services. Our buildings also feature a staff enrichment wellness coordinator who offers regular planned activities and wellness programs for residents at all our buildings.

Residents must be 62 or older or have a disability. Rent is income based and applicants must meet income guidelines. All buildings except for Stevens House are subsidized. Stevens House is open to applicants 55 and older and has no income limits.

Stevens House

49 Summer Street, Rockland

An 1850s-era house divided into 6 fully applianced apartments, Stevens House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, one block from downtown Rockland. It is in walking distance of restaurants, the Rockland Public Library, Rite Aid Pharmacy local churches and Rockland Harbor.

For a fee, residents can participate in the three home-cooked meals offered daily in the dining room of the Methodist Conference Home which is located next door. They are also welcome to join the planned programming and activities offered in the club room and use the coin-operated laundry machines located there.

Open to applicants 55 and older. No income limits.

Knox Hotel Apartments

Located in Thomaston’s historic business district, Knox Hotel Apartments underwent an extensive rehab in 2011. Each of the 26 one-bedroom and 3 two-bedroom apartments have fully applianced kitchens. Knox Hotel Apartments are located across the street from restaurants, a grocery store, banks, and local churches.

The service-enriched housing community at Knox Hotel offers: A noontime dinner meal in our on-site dining room will soon be available twice weekly. We also offer free wi-fi

Methodist Conference Home

39 Summer Street, Rockland

The Methodist Conference Home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, one block from downtown Rockland. Each of the 36 studio and 12 one-bedroom apartments are fully applianced and feature large picture windows providing natural light.

Residents have access to a library, club room and outdoor deck. Methodist Conference Home is in walking distance of restaurants, the Rockland Public Library, churches and Rite Aid Pharmacy.

Our service enriched housing community at the Methodist Conference Home offers:

  • Onsite dining communal meals. The resident will be responsible for preparing some of their own weekly meals.
  • Weekly shopping trip to local supermarket and Wal-Mart
  • Weekly grocery shopping service

An Enhanced Living Program is offered on the second floor of Methodist Conference Home for eligible applicants/residents requiring a comprehensive package of support services to help maintain their independence.

Rankin Center

1 Rankin Street, Rockland

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Rankin Center offers 42 one and 8 two-bedroom apartments. All of the apartments are fully-applianced and many have views of Rockland Harbor.

Rankin Center is located in Downtown Rockland in walking distance of restaurants, the Rockland Public Library, churches and Rite-Aid Pharmacy. The Brown Bag, a popular local restaurant is located on the bottom floor of the Rankin Block.

  • Onsite dining room offering a noontime meal Monday thru Friday
  • Weekly shopping trip to local supermarket and Wal-Mart
  • Weekly grocery shopping service

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a nursing home or assisted living facility?

No. Our properties are service enriched independent housing communities. Staff is not available 24/7, nor do they monitor residents comings or goings or provide protective oversight. However, on site services and service programs are available to assist residents in maintaining optimal independence and successful tenancies. In addition, the Enhanced Living Program on the second floor of Methodist Conference Home offers a more intensive level of services for those who qualify.

What are the age qualifications?

Individuals must be 62 years or older or 18 years of age or older with a disability.

What are the financial qualifications?

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sets age and income guidelines for our apartment complexes utilizing their funding. These figures change annually. For updated income guidelines, contact Sherry Reimer at 207-594-2743 or [email protected].

Do I have to pay utilities?

Heat and electricity are included in the rent at Methodist Conference Home, Rankin Center and Stevens House. Heat and electricity are not included at Knox Hotel Apartment; however, a utility allowance is made as part of the rent calculation and residents are encouraged to apply for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program).

Are pets allowed?

Small to medium-sized cats and dogs are allowed along with fish and birds. Dogs and cats must be neutered or spayed and meet vaccination requirements. Pet deposit required.

Is smoking allowed?

All of our housing communities are smoke free properties and as such, smoking is prohibited in our apartments and common areas. However, each property does offer a designated outdoor smoking area.
