The September 30th deadline is quickly approaching to participate in the Knox County Livable Communities Survey. It can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KCLivableCommunities.  Paper copies can be requested by calling (207) 596-6477 extension 8. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Two random people who respond will win a $50 gift card.

The survey is one of the first projects of the Knox County Livable Communities since joining the AARP Network of Age Friendly states and communities in 2019.  Over 70 communities throughout Maine are currently members of the network, with Maine being the 6th state in the nation to receive Age Friendly designation in October 2019.

The Knox Project is coordinated by MCH, Inc., a non-profit Knox County organization whose mission is to empower individuals, primarily older adults and people with disabilities to maintain active, independent lives by providing them with housing, Meals on Wheels, and support services.  Since 1969 MCH programs have been important safety nets for the most vulnerable residents of Knox County.  The Knox County Livable Communities is comprised of a wide range of local organizations and application for county-wide status was completed by the Knox County Commissioners.

The county-wide survey is one of the first key steps in the project.  Responses will indicate what people see as their region’s strengths, needs, and possibilities for the future. It will help planners gain knowledge from a cross section of each community and the county as a whole.
